Course Substitutions and Learning Evaluations: How one institution is addressing barriers to completion

Ruth McKenna has been working in Higher Education with Disability Services as a Counselor at Portland Community College (PCC) since 2004. She holds a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology and is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with the state of Oregon. The main focus of her professional training is in the mental health field with special interests in the following student populations: Asperger's Syndrome, Veterans, Traumatic Brain Injury, PTSD and Specific Learning Disorders. She served on the PCC Math Course Substitution Revision Committee in 2014 and works closely with students and staff to conduct LEAP screenings and to determine eligibility for course substitution on a case-by-case basis.
