Ethical Compliance: Taking Responsibility for Equity in Disability Services

Jewls Griesmeyer Krentz, MA CRC NCC, is an Access Counselor and Consultant at the Disability Resource Center (DRC) at Portland State University (PSU). Jewls received her Masters in Rehabilitation Counseling from PSU in 2008 and is currently working on her PhD in Adult and Higher Education at Oregon State University. Her doctoral work focuses on international students with disabilities and intersectionality. Jewls had a private counseling practice for eight years and served on the city of Portland Commission on Disability for four years. Since joining the DRC, Jewls developed a classroom assistant program with robust training that balances student support and autonomy. She co-created PSU’s social justice approach to equitable access for blind students. Jewls serves on the Accessibility Committee at PSU, on the ORAHEAD Board of Directors, and as Co-Chair of AHEAD’s Blind and Low Vision SIG. She has presented multiple times at regional and national conferences including AHEAD and ORAHEAD.
