Making Students with Disabilities Successful in Higher Education

Originally a special education teacher, Dr. Björn Fisseler received his Ph.D. in rehabilitation sciences from the TU Dortmund University. He is currently working as a research associate with the department of psychology at the Fernuniversität Hagen. Prior to that he was a research associate at the faculty of rehabilitation sciences, and at the former Center for Research on Higher Education and Faculty Development at the TU Dortmund. His research interests include factors that support or hinder the participation of students with disabilities in higher education. This encompasses Universal Design, accessibility (web, elearning), curricular and educational programmes to enhance student attainment, as well as theory and research on student persistence and retention in higher ecuation. Dr. Fisseler has presented his research at several national and international conferences. He is regularly invited to do faculty training workshops on accessibility and Universal Design for Learning.
