Pinpointing the Pain Points of Case Review


Valerie Hamilton has been working in disability services since 2011 and is currently the Associate Director of Disability Resources for Students at the University of Washington. One of her duties in this role is to lead a team of four Access Coordinators who meet twice weekly to review and resolve unique student cases pertaining especially to requests for disability related absences, separate room testing, and note taking. The ultimate goal for her team is to have uniformity of process when making difficult decisions. Prior to working in higher education, Valerie was a high school special education teacher. She has a B.A. in History from the University of California at Santa Cruz, an M.Ed. in Special Education from the University of Minnesota, and a professional certificate from the University of Connecticut in Post Secondary Education and Disability.
