Professional Development of Faculty: Social Justice, Self-Concept, the Aligning the Responsibility to Accommodate

Carey Busch has 18 years of experience within higher education and non-profit work with individuals with disabilities. She has worked with college students with disabilities for over 8 years and has served as the director at Ohio University for over 5 years. Carey frequently presents to faculty and teaching assistants in a variety of venues to provide professional development regarding effective coordination of accommodations for students with disabilities. She has co-authored two publications regarding effective training and preparation of teaching assistants in foreign language courses and conducted dissertation research regarding the connection between faculty social justice orientation and the willingness to accommodate students with disabilities. This research led to the current approach to faculty professional development to be discussed in this presentation. Carey has actively presented at a variety of conferences.
