Retaining Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students of Color in Higher Education

Dr. Thompson-Ochoa is a Native of Trinidad in the West Indies. She came to USA to pursue her studies in higher education. She is currently an Assistant Professor in Department of Counseling at Gallaudet University in Washington, DC. Dr. Thompson-Ochoa teaches graduate school courses in Counseling. Her specialty is in School Counseling and strongly believes students who have support and access to resources in k-12 settings, will be fully prepared to enter higher education. As a Deaf Person of Color, she has been advocating on recruiting Deaf People of Color to seek higher education and advocating for Deaf People of Color to receive appropriate services and support to graduate successfully at their institution, including Gallaudet University.
