Shattering the Stigma of Mental Illness Disabilities on College Campuses

Kathleen Maxson is the current Student Accessibility Coordinator at Cabrini University in Radnor, PA. Cabrini University currently has 18% of the student population registered with the Disability Resource Center. In her role, she serves a wide variety of students, many of whom who have a mental health diagnosis in addition to other disabilities. Ms. Maxson completed her M.S. in Counseling at West Chester University of Pennsylvania and is pursuing her NCC and LPC licensure with hopes of continuing onto a doctorate. She has given educational lectures at West Chester University and Cabrini University concerning mental health and learning disabilities and contributed a chapter in an intersectional counseling book concerning mental health, religious, and queer identity. She is passionate about assistive technology and helping students develop their self-advocacy skills. Ms. Maxson is a mental illness advocate and as a person who has a mental illness hopes this presentation will end stigma.
