Tech Tools for Academic Success: A Student-Focused AT Self-Assessment

Author: Kim Saccio-Kent

As the assistive computer technology specialist at Skyline College in San Bruno, CA, I provide one-on-one support with assistive technologies as well as teach tech courses: Tools for Reading, Tools for Writing, Tools for Note Taking, and Intro to Assistive Computer Technologies. Before becoming an instructor, I was an editor in the field of computer technologies. In addition to my Master’s in Digital Media and Learning, I hold a certificate in Assistive Technology Applications from California State University, Northridge (CSUN). In 2019 I presented Tech Tools for Academic Success at CSUN’s annual conference on assistive technologies as well as at the California Association for Postsecondary Education and Disabilities convention. I regularly present workshops at Skyline on Universal Design for Learning and tech tools for learning; I also present on assistive computer technologies at the Transition to Independence Fair, an annual outreach event held by local school districts.
