The Adult Learner: Misconceptions of Available Support and Uncertainties of Accommodation Use

Author: Katherine Aquino

I hold a BS in Psychology, MA in School Psychology, a PhD in Higher Education Policy and Advanced Certification in Instructional Design and Delivery. My research interests include the socio-academic transitioning into and within the higher education environment for students with disabilities, first generation students, and adult learners. I serve as Assistant Professor in the Department of Administrative and Instructional Leadership for the School of Education at St. John's University. I am the co-editor and contributing author of Disability as Diversity in Higher Education: Policies and Practices to Enhance Student Success. My research work intersects the concepts of disability in higher education and the adult learner experience. I believe this research would be beneficial to AHEAD conference participants as it presents a unique student experience to be supported.
