Transformers: From Accommodations Factory to Accessibility Center and Beyond

Shawna has presented at AHEAD and other national conferences (PTI, NACADA, ACA) previously. She has been the Assistant Director for the Goldman Center for Student Accessibility at Tulane University for six years. Tulane is a medium-sized, private institution with a 2-year residency requirement. In what is described as a ‘culture of entitlement,’ our students seek exception for requirements frequently. We have seen a significant increase in housing requests related to single room accommodations for anxiety, off campus releases due to dietary issues, and, yes, one request to be relocated due to hearing a rumor that one of our dorms was haunted.
