Web Accessibility: Practical Steps to Legal and Technical Compliance

Elizabeth served as an attorney for the U.S. Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights (Region VII) for five years. There she investigated institutions’ compliance with Federal civil rights laws, including Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act. As the daughter of two professors, Elizabeth embraced the opportunity to become Senior Counsel with Husch Blackwell as a member of the Education Group – representing and working for higher education institutions across the country. Since joining the firm in 2015, Elizabeth has used her experience from OCR to provide civil rights compliance counsel to institutions. Elizabeth has used her experience at OCR to help institutions implement internal efforts to comply with the civil rights statutes. This work has included advising institutions on web accessibility and assisting institutions with implementing web accessibility policies and protocols-both in response to OCR investigations and independently.
